First design & construct contract in the UK. The tunnel is designed to withstand possible uplift from water pressures in an underlying chalk layer.
A graving dock for the elements was built at the eastern portal on the line of the tunnel. On completion of the elements, the graving dock was opened and elements removed and placed. The final element was sealed in the opening of the dock.The approach st
